Team Spotlight Series: Meet Patrícia Mansinho, Content Marketing Specialist
Welcome to another issue of the Team Spotlight series at LayerX 🚀
In this series, we delve into the stories, experiences, and perspectives of the incredible people that make LayerX. Today, we get to chat with Patrícia Mansinho, Content Marketing Specialist at LayerX, where we’ll get to know her and learn what it’s like to work in web3 marketing.
What does a typical workday look like for a Marketer in the web3 ecosystem?
Well, it’s very dynamic and diversified. At LayerX, we always have a lot of things happening at the same time… Partly because we have different products which leads to us having new projects and partnerships associated with each product from time to time. Recently, we’ve also launched new consultancy services for TAIKAI which brings a new scope of work and opportunities since we collaborate with our clients in promoting and marketing their hackathons. I have busier days, but I also have quieter days which are also very important in my work because it’s when I can deep focus to work on long-form written content.
What do you appreciate most about LayerX’s culture?
Several things come to mind, but if I have to pick one, it’s the genuine recognition and respect for each individual. At LayerX, one truly feels seen and heard — not just as a number or an element of the workforce, but as a person beyond the work they deliver. This approach is evident in our leadership and management, and it inevitably permeates the entire team. It’s amazing to work in an environment like ours because it fosters a close bond between team members, making us feel motivated, supported, and empowered to deliver the best work possible.
Did you know anything about web3 before joining LayerX?
Yes, I have a background in technology and was somewhat familiar with web3 concepts before joining LayerX, but my experience here has significantly deepened my knowledge at different levels. I really enjoy reading about the innovative projects and technologies I stumble upon while doing my work, which is helping me become more knowledgeable about the topic and opening my mind to the broader impact of blockchain technologies.
What do you like the most about working in web3?
I really enjoy the fact that web3 is still in its early stages, which is very motivating because right from the start, you become part of something with the potential to change how we interact with the digital world. I believe that in the current job market, many people struggle to find purpose in their jobs because the impact of their work is minimal, and web3 fills that void because you are literally contributing to something that has the potential to change so many things for the better. Another thing that I like is that, since it’s just the beginning of web3, there are no rules written yet, and there is a lot of room for experimentation and creativity. Lastly, the rapid development in web3 keeps you constantly on your toes — there’s always something new to learn and adapt to, which I find incredibly stimulating and rewarding.
What are some common misconceptions you encounter about web3?
I think the most common misconception I encounter when talking with people outside the web3 community is that web3 is solely about cryptocurrencies. While crypto is indeed a significant part of the web3 environment, equating web3 only with crypto is overlooking the immense potential of decentralized technologies to revolutionize many sectors beyond just financial transactions. Many people still fail to see that web3 encompasses a broad range of technologies that open up countless possibilities for disrupting traditional business models.
What trends or innovations in web3 are you most excited about?
As a person working in Marketing, I am particularly sensitive to the current issues of privacy and transparency. It’s really concerning how common it has become for companies to collect, handle, and transact our personal data unethically. Often, we don’t even realize what’s happening with our own information, and many of us agree to terms we don’t fully understand. These are a few of the issues that I believe can be tackled and improved with the help of Web3 technologies. I think we still have a long way to go to materialize such a reality, but the progress in decentralized and blockchain technologies might be a hopeful first step.
What advice would you give to someone looking to start a career in digital marketing?
Marketing is a highly competitive field, and sometimes it can be tough to find opportunities. I think persistence is a must, and staying determined to seize your opportunity is crucial in any market, particularly in marketing. So, the first piece of advice is definitely to stay resilient and adaptable. If you already have some experience, that’s great. But if you don’t, consider building a personal portfolio by working on personal projects or freelancing for friends and family. This approach will showcase your creativity and skills better than any CV can. You can also work on developing your personal brand by writing articles on a personal blog or on Medium, posting on professional social networks, and establishing an online presence where everyone can see your expertise and thought leadership. This alone will position you ahead of the majority of the competition. Finally, target industries that align with your hard skills. For example, I graduated in Engineering and even worked as a software developer for a while, and perhaps not coincidentally, my career in marketing has always involved working in the technology sector. It’s easier to market an industry with which you are already familiar, and for hiring companies, it’s also more compelling to hire candidates who have some understanding of the business.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself.
I have always had a knack for learning languages. While I was at university, I received a scholarship to study in Italy, and after moving there, it took me five weeks to start speaking Italian fluently.
What’s one thing you’re learning now or learned recently?
Recently, I’ve become interested in learning DIY stuff. I always liked to put my mind to work to solve problems and fix things, and lately I’ve become curious about the idea of working on small DIY activities to disconnect from the digital world and put my hands (and mind) to work on different things.
